Ruth Jantz served as the Kiwanis Club of Buffalo secretary for many decades and was dearly loved by the membership. Upon her passing, the club decided to initiate a scholarship fund to honor her dedication and support of the work the club does in Western New York.

The scholarship is offered to high school seniors from the City of Buffalo going to a college or higher institute of learning of their choice. It is awarded based on merit, academic achievement, financial need, and a demonstrable commitment to service to the community. Since Ms. Jantz also had marked physical handicap, special consideration is given to physically-challenged students who have suffered a loss or permanent restriction of use of any limb, or severe impairment to vision, hearing , or speech.

The minimum amount awarded each year to one deserving student is $1,000.

Candidates should submit a letter of application to the Kiwanis Club of Buffalo that addresses the following:

  1. Academic achievement including scholastic honors, grades, and career aspirations.
  2. Financial need.
  3. Service to the community.
  4. Any physical challenges the student faces.

In addition, the letter should include a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the student’s school.

Applications should be sent by April 30th each year to :
